A Daura Road Upper Sharia Court, Kaduna, on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old barber, Isah Umar, to four month in prison for stabbing a man in the back with a knife.
Umar, who resides on Yoruba Road by Ahmadu Bello way, Kaduna, pleaded guilty to two counts of of joint act, and causing grievous hurt and begged the court for leniency.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Jumare, however, gave Umar an option to pay a fine of N5, 000.
Jumare warned the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding“the punishment would have been stiffer if the convict had wasted the time of the court”.
The prosecutor, Shehu Abdullahi had told the court that the matter was reported on Dec. 1, at Gabasawa Police Station, Kaduna, by one Mohammed Yusuf of Kano Road Kaduna.
He said that on Nov. 30 at about 20. 30 p.m. , the convict pushed the complainant off his seat where he was watching Tv.
Abdullahi said that when the complainant asked the reasons for his action, the convict and one other (at large), beat him and violently used a knife to stab him in the back.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 245 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
