Alhaji Ibrahim Matane, Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), on Friday reiterated the determination of the state Government to provide peaceful atmosphere for socio-economic development of the state.
The SSG, in a statement by Lawal Tanko, information officer in his office, said effective security measures were already in place to guarantee safety of lives and property of all citizens at all times.
The statement said that Matane gave the assurance at a one-day interactive meeting with heads of security agencies, Fulani leaders and other stakeholders in Minna.
The SSG told participants at the meeting that government was worried about activities of armed bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers in some parts of the state.
“We are presently collaborating with security agencies, Fulani leaders and other relevant stakeholders with a view to finding lasting solution to insecurity challenges facing our dear state,” he said.
He stressed that the state was already having its own shares of insecurity in Rafi, Shiroro, Munya and Mariga Local Government Areas due to the migration of kidnappers and bandits from the neighbouring states.
Matane said people affected by the unfortunate incidents should remain calm, unruffled and go on with their legitimate activities.
The SSG said the government was partnering other states in order to put an end to the unacceptable wanton carnage and security challenges bedeviling the states.
He also called on residents to support security personnel deployed to fight criminal elements with information about bad elements in their midst.
Responding, the Vice Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, Alhaji Hussaini Bosso, expressed concern that those perpetrating banditry, kidnapping, robbery and other criminal activities were not from Niger.
Bosso expressed optimism that the meeting would address the issue of insecurity bedeviling the state adding that the group was overwhelmed by the proactive measures taken by the present administration to arrest the ungodly situation.
“We will sensitise our followers to the need to provide intelligence information on dubious people in our midst,” he concluded.
