Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has accused the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice of budgeting the sum of N5.6 billion for zonal constituency projects, describing such allocation as anomalies.

Disclosing this at a roundtable in its “My Constituency, My Project” initiative, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, ICPC spokesperson, shared that the commission made the discovery and has since questioned the motive behind it.

The anti-graft agency revealed that while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs inserted N2.9 billion in its 2019 budget for the execution of zonal constituency projects, the Ministry of Justice budgeted N2.7 billion for the same.

“What is constituency project doing in Foreign Affairs? We will ask questions with this kind of allocation,” she said.

The ICPC spokesperson further revealed that only about 60 per cent of constituency projects have been completed with a lot of them executed in shoddy ways due to poor technical designs, impositions and other sundry irregularities.

She stressed that the commission would not give up on tracking of constituency projects as long as government kept funding them and therefore called on local communities to own the projects for themselves.

Okoduwa further observed that the two ministries are not the only found wanting, noting that other ministries and agencies have similarly resorted to budgeting to implementing constituency projects, as inserted in their budget provisions.
